Orthodontics is an area of dentistry that deals with the study and treatment of malocclusions (improper bite). Orthodontic treatment is not only designed to improve the appearance of your smile, but also improve the health of your teeth and gums.
The most favorable time for orthodontic treatment to yield the best results is in the 4-16 years age group and needs to be initiated as early as feasible.
However, there is no age limit to qualify for orthodontic treatment and scores of adult patients benefit from this treatment, particularly as “undetectable ceramic braces” which ensures a favorable social response.
WHY GET BRACES?
Braces work by applying continuous pressure over a period of time, by using a system of wires and brackets to slowly move teeth in a specific direction. As the teeth move, the bone changes shape as pressure is applied. Once the braces are removed (typically in one to two years), you are left with straighter teeth, proper jaw alignment and a dazzling smile.
Can adults get braces? While braces are typically associated with teenagers, you can get braces at any age.
Adult braces are quite a common procedure.
It’s never too late to address dental problems caused by crooked teeth and to get that smile you’ve always wanted.
WE HAVE OPTIONS FOR YOU….
Braces have changed over the years. Today, options range from colorfully cool to nearly invisible. The choice is yours, and you don’t have to come up with the answers alone. As orthodontists, we are experts in helping you find your perfect match.
We offer two different types of braces:
Traditional metal braces: This is the most common type of braces, and they are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a unique and colorful smile.
Ceramic braces: Since they are made of clear materials, ceramic braces are less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adults who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene, as ceramic braces are larger and more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.
Well,Invisalign® is an undetectable way to level your teeth without having to wear braces, making use of a series of transparent, detachable aligners to set straight your teeth without the need for braces or metal wires.
How Does Invisalign® Work?
You will be using both aligner sets for around two weeks, taking them out only for meals, drinking fluids and for brushing and flossing.
As you substitute each aligner for the following one in the series, bit by bit, your teeth will gradually shift, until they have leveled to the ultimate alignment.
(Once in six weeks, you will have to call in to the practice to make certain that the treatment is advancing as per schedule.)
The treatment, from beginning to end, takes about nine to fifteen months and around eighteen to thirty aligners are normally worn in the course of treatment, but depending on the case, both of these tend to vary.
